Operation New Life is a non-profit organisation that works on a voluntary basis with the
government and people of Niger to provide medical assistance and supplies to these
unfortunate young women. We are working closely with
IOWD. All visiting surgeons and
nursing staff carry out the work on a voluntary basis, even funding their own travel and
accommodation.
Now, an Irish woman, Siobhan D'Arcy Bewick, from Dublin, has set up Operation New Life in
Ireland and has initiated a project to design and build a special hospital for the women. It will
be attached to the main hospital in Niamey, the capital of Niger. It will have two operating
theatres approximately fifty-two beds, and a medical teaching faculty.

Siobhan has begun a campaign to build a new hospital which will provide a dedicated
facility for their pre- and post-operative care and will be the first of its kind in West Africa.
The organisation has secured permission from the President of Niger to build this important
facility. This hospital will eventually help thousands if not hundreds of thousands of desperately
sick and poverty-stricken women.
