Operation New life is a charity based in Ireland providing support for fistula women in the West African country of Niger. We are supporting projects who are working to operate on and provide health care for these beautiful women, many of whom are just young girls, who have been tragically damaged during childbirth.

'The young women who have fistula repair surgery go from having no options at all to rejoining their villages and families with a smile on their faces' - Prof Marypat Fitzgerald

So much has already been accomplished and we want to continue to ensure that these women get the second chance at life which they deserve. A relatively simple operation can do this. Please support us, together we can give these women back their lives and help to restore their dignity.

GREAT NEWS FROM NIGER

Niamey’s dedicated Fistula Hospital is now finished. The Centre National de Reférence des Fistules Obstétricales (CNRFO) will also serve as a national reference centre for fistula care in Niger. The hospital will be capable of handling both simple and complex fistula cases. The new hospital will ensure that women no longer have to wait in the courtyard of the National Hospital for treatment. They will also have a bed after surgery and therefore no longer have on lie on the ground in the courtyard.

The building was built by local workers ensuring local ownership of the Hospital. It includes an operating theatre and a ward with 41 beds. The newly elected Government is responsible for sustaining the hospital including salaries, electricity and water.
